Whilst harmonic mixers are available to extend spectrum analysers to the millimeter and sub-millimeter waveguide bands, they rely on correctly identifying the mixer mulitplication on number. In some circumstances it is possible to make frequency measurements that can be in error by tens of Gigahertz. Flann’s series 073 programmable cavity frequency meters feature a precision resonant cavity that can be used to independently verify the frequency of a measured frequency
response. Software algorithms are employed to ensure backlash is eliminated and the resulting frequency measurements are exceptionally accurate. The absorption on characteristic is a minimum of 1dB and frequency determination on accuracy is enhanced by the high Q cavity with non-contacting piston. Careful design ensures that there are no ambiguous responses
within the full waveguide band. As well as the advantages that come with the ability to send commands over an Ethernet connection on, the instrument fully complies with the IEEE 802.3af Class 0 specification on and therefore allows both power and communication on through a single connector.
Important
Flann’s frequency meters do not measure the frequency of a signal directly – a Signal Detector is required with the Frequency Meter to display the change of amplitude at the tuned response.
